For the past year and a half, I've loved writing Sidewalk Chorus, my newsletter that explores how New York’s government works and shares ways to make this city an even better place to live. It's been a fun journey.
The process of crafting each article — from the each spark of curiosity to pressing the “publish” button — has been incredibly fulfilling. Sidewalk Chorus has given me the perfect excuse to indulge my inner nerd, carefully researching topics that pique my interest and discussing topics I care about. I relish the challenge of distilling the complexity of our city’s government into compelling, digestible prose that can help to inspire and educate my readers.
However, my curiosity and interests extend far beyond urban politics. I work as a product manager in tech. I enjoy running and tinkering with personal finance. I just started painting. I sometimes find myself with topics I’d love to write about that don’t quite fit the scope I’ve defined for Sidewalk Chorus.
Enter Sebastian's Scribbles — my new blog where I'll explore this broader spectrum of interests. The name reflects the more eclectic and personal nature of these writings, which will serve as a counterpoint to the focused remit of Sidewalk Chorus.
I've just published my inaugural post, offering a behind-the-scenes look at my work as a product manager on Google Maps, along with some insights for those curious about breaking into the field:
Moving forward, Sidewalk Chorus and Sebastian's Scribbles will remain distinct entities — and I have lots of pieces in the pipeline for both blogs. If you're interested in following my full range of writing, I encourage you to subscribe to both (for free, of course). As with my political writing, I expect the cadence of my scribbles will fluctuate based on inspiration and my schedule.
I’m excited to take this next step in my journey of writing. I hope you’ll join me.
